Hong Kong Days 12& 13: Boat Tour, World Cup, and Banquet

I have been watching Scrubs as I catch up on my OH so incredibly interesting online journal haha yeah right. But finally I have found how to watch the world cup. So I will watch that now was I blog about the past two days

Today (actually yesterday) everyone who was invited to the conference was invited to go on a boat tour of Hong Kong. Unfortunately for us, it rained like the whole time. In fact it stormed and lighteninged –haha that is not a word I guess- but it was very cool. I was very proud. It was the first time I had been a boat other than the pontoon boats and speed boats that I have tubed and water skied off of. This boat was definitely rocky, but I did not get sick! =D We didn’t get to see much of a tour of hong kong though because of the rain. Nor did we see the pink dolphins that supposedly inhabit the Hong Kong Area. Our boat by the way looked totally gay. It was really funny, but worked out very nicely. We stopped at a fishing island called Lamma first to just walk around for an hour. It was pouring but we decided to walk 20-25 mins to the beach. I was excited to FINALLY see a beach. I really miss my beach and pool back home. We got soaked, but we did see a place where we could have swam if it were nice. Mike mentioned that it was hilarious to see a beach full of people under umbrellas, I guess I agree. Then some walked ahead to the other side of the island to where we were going to eat, I walked back to the boat because I was not feeling seasick. Finally we arrived to where we would eat lunch. It was impressive to see all the fish, etc. in tanks. Our lunch was quite impressive. We had shrimps with their legs and eyes still on them and some scallops in seashells that were really good. There were mussels (which were spicy), some type of crab (which were hard to eat), fish (which was delicious despite the fact that it had its head there staring you in the face), fried calamari (which was chewy but good), some type of sweet and sour pork, fried rice, pineapple.. it was all very good for the most part except I didn’t like the chicken (maybe because it still had its head as well). Kinnex later told me that this is done because it makes the food prettier –aka adds to the presentation of the food. Yeah, that may be so in other culture, but that sure aint what we American students thought. It didn’t bother me too much –the shrimps were the grosses with their black eyes. After dinner the weather cleared a little and we went back. I saw a floating dinner place that was tackily decorated, but still looked kinda cool.

Everyone was tired after the boat trip so most of us tried to rest and nap. Then we all got dressed up and went to Central HKI to go find a place to eat. We did this because almost everyone wanted to go clubbing in the clubs near Central. We went to Heaven on Earth. I wouldn’t say that it was as good as it name made us believe. I got some fried rice with pork which was good I guess. Overall it had pretty good food, but no refills on ice tea or pop…that was very annoying –especially for a “big drinker” like myself. After dinner, those who went clubbing –went. And I went back with john and nick to go back. I was planning on meeting some of my soccer friends to watch the opening match of the world cup at midnight (hong kong time). On the subway back to the stop near HKBU, I met two pretty young girls who said they were 18, but I think they were younger –probably 10ish? The little girls made my night though. They told me that I was so beautiful and kept wanting to look at my eyes –I guess since they are blue and not brown like everyone here =). We chatted a little bit, their English was pretty good and a nice lady helped translate a little. The lady said that I was so nice and we talked too and she asked for my number so that she could introduce me to other people (or something?), but since I don’t have one, I could not give her it. Figures a woman would want my digits hehe =) she was really nice.

Anywho since where I am is in the middle of where the soccer people can meet –I guess and since it seemed like they were looking for a place to watch (I think?) we went to my place to watch it. There were five of them who came, which was good –too many more could have been very cramped. Kinnex, Tony, Sean, Kenneth, and Pui. Pui is Kinnex’s neighbor and good friend. He hurt his knee so he doesn’t play soccer with us, but I like him, he seems like a good kid. His name is pronounced like boy only with a p so like “poy.” They were a little nervous that my hotel would not let them in, but it was no problem. It was a lot of fun watching the game with them. Kinnex had brought snacks and we showed each other pictures online. After the game, they stayed until 3 when Chelsea came back from the clubs. They thought me two new card games and just talked about stuff. For example I asked about what the ideal attractive Hong Kong girl is described as. I told them in the states I was under the impression that the ideal pretty girl is tall thin tan with long blonde hair blue eyes and big boobs –at least more or less that is what I think the stereotypical “hot babe” is like. They said that in hong kong, the girl is not super tall, very thin, small breasted, pale, with big eyes, and long black hair. I have seen a lot of these girls running around. =) they also said that girls in HK are very worried about their weight –it seemed even more so than in the US. they take pills and do lots of crazy things (similar to in the states with bulimia and anorexia). I think that is crazy because like everyone here seems just naturally thin. In fact, I know I am somewhat thin in the usa, but here I feel a little fat. Anywho that was a long tangent sorry. Anyways it was a lot of fun and they seem to have similar good tastes in humor so that we all had a lot of fun and I did not regret not going to the clubs in the least –even though it sounds like everyone had a blast doing that too.

We went to bed around 4 and I woke up at 11am to go to lunch –I skipped the morning conference sessions. Then I went to the last few sessions before we got ready to go to the banquet. We went to this awesome restaurant on a high skyscraper on HKI. http://www.hongkongfoodguide.com/cgi-bin/search.pl?command=read&id=w1&l=e sorry I didn’t find a better site, im lazy and tired right now. Anways the view was amazing and the food was sooo good. It was buffet so I overate, but it was delicious sushi and desserts and lots of other food. Magnificent!! Anways then we got back here and I talked with benj. I tried to find a place to watch the world cup, but didn’t feel like walking to a bar to see the second half of the England game. Silly hong kong and their channels it is almost as bad as in the usa. Anywho, the game is still 0-0, but im fading so I think I will close here with only one more thing: reminder to self: talk about the Italian and belguim guy in the lift (elevator).
